Cathy’s Crawly Composters of Bradford received the Excellence in Small Business Award sponsored by the Newmarket Era at the East Gwillimbury Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Success gala.
The award acknowledges a company that exhibits community involvement, social and business responsibility and commitment to the development of business.
Cathy’s Crawly Composters promotes the benefits of red wiggler worms in composting, known as vermicomposting.
“We endeavour to make worms fun and shift people’s perspective about them,” said Cathy Nesbitt, the business’ owner. “We continue to make people laugh and admire the lowly worm.”
One of the goals of the company is to create a worm-growing operation that would create employment.
While many municipalities have introduced organic collection programs and regular composting is widespread, vermicomposting is a great alternative for use in commercial and multi-residential buildings.
Worms convert food scraps and paper into fertilizer, known as castings.
Worm castings return much needed nutrients back to the earth.
