Harmony Whole Foods in Orangeville
Cathy unleashed her contagious passion for worm composting
and environmental awareness and responsibility during the workshop,
and held her audience spellbound - it was "everything you ever wanted
to know about worm composting", and more!
Great information, answers to questions before they
were asked (does worm composting smell? can the worms get out? how
did you possibly get started doing this?), and one of the most engaging
and heartfelt speakers I have ever heard. By the end of this workshop,
you will know, without a shadow of a doubt, that worms can save
the planet!!
We will host Cathy again in the spring!

Announcing:
The World Premiere of:
Squirm
The story of Cathy's Crawly Composters.
January
16 & 17 at the 3rd Annual Green Reel Environmental Film Festival.
At the start of the 19th century, it is
assumed that 100% of North American inhabitants composted and vermicomposted.
It is a process that remains active today in only a few pockets
of the modern world. While nations such as Cuba and Chile have embraced
its benefits, further mechanized societies have left it behind.
‘SQUIRM’ is the story of Cathy Nesbitt,
Canada’s foremost authority on vermicomposting. Tracing the history
of the agricultural practice back to Cleopatra, this unique documentary
examines the role played by the red wiggler worm throughout history
to the modern-day campaign of Cathy’s Crawly Composters.

Did you Know?
What's so special about Red Wigglers?
Red Wigglers (Eisenia foetida) are from the same family as the
common earthworm or Night Crawlers (Lumbricus terrestris) you see
on your driveway after a rain. An important difference, and the
main reason Red Wigglers are preferred vermiculture specialists,
is that Night Crawlers like to draw food down into burrows (up to
6 feet deep), whereas Red Wigglers prefer to eat on the go. Being
top feeders, Red Wigglers scavenge for food just 6" - 12" below
the surface, making them perfect for a composting environment. |
