Musical instruments from
trash, energy from wind,
compost from garbage - the
Annual Windfall Ecology
Festival at Fairy Lake Park,
June 10-11 offered everything
from recycling and
alternative energy, to art.
There were photovoltaic
panels and wind turbines,
an art festival and kids'
craft zone, displays on
sustainable living, alternative
health care, pesticide free
lawns; organically grown
flowers, tofu kabobs
and organic ice cream.
And there was a display of
vermicomposting, by
Cathy's Crawly Composters
of Bradford. Explaining
vermicomposting - the
transformation of organic
matter into compost using
red wiggler worms - was
local resident Cathy Nesbitt.
Her exhortations to
"Worm away your garbage!" brought the booth a
steady stream of visitors -
and an Education Award
from the Windfall Ecology
Centre.
